Engagement Coordinator – Attendance Service 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexible) Permanent Position

Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About this role
We’re recruiting an Engagement Coordinator to support the delivery of WestREAP’s Attendance Service in Westland -covering Hokitika and the wider Westland District. You’ll work with our Attendance Team Leader & schools working out of our Blaketown office as well as our main office in Hokitika.
The Attendance Team functions to reduce barriers to attendance and improve engagement across schools in the West Coast region. You will be the boots on the ground, liaising closely with ākonga, their whānau, and kura, and coordinating wraparound support with social services. Your work will reflect WestREAP’s values of Manaakitanga, Accessibility, Inclusivity, Empowerment, and Responsiveness.

Ngā tūranga mahi | What you’ll do

Build strong, respectful relationships with students and their whānau

Work closely with schools to understand attendance concerns and agree clear next steps

Support whānau to navigate barriers (e.g., routines, wellbeing, confidence, connection to supports)

Advocate for students and whānau, coordinating with relevant agencies and community providers when additional wraparound support is needed (such as Work & Income, CAMHS, and Oranga Tamariki)

Maintain clear, accurate case notes and contribute to service reporting

Travel within your region to schools and whānau (work vehicle provided from office)

You’re warm, grounded, and able to engage with people from all walks of life. You follow through, you communicate well, and you can hold boundaries while staying human.
We’re looking for someone with:

A full driver licence (required)

Experience in community engagement, youth support, education support, social services, or similar

Passion to deliver a necessary service to vulnerable ākonga (students)

A strong “follow-through” approach to ensure ngā kiritaki (the clients) receive the support promised

Confidence working independently, with good judgement and reliable admin habits

An understanding of CRM systems, with prior experience in Salesforce a bonus.

An understanding of te ao Māori and an ability to work in a way that supports whānau. Mana and connection is also valued.
