Community Kapa Haka

WestREAP provides Community Kapa Haka classes in Greymouth and Hokitika. 

Ko te kupu nei te “Kapa Haka” he tirohanga whānui ki ngā mahi toi Māori, ārā ngā mahi haka, waiata ā ringa, te tū pakari, te kori tinana, te pūkana, te whakakotahitanga o te katoa.

The term ‘kapa haka’ refers to a broad range of Māori performing arts combining stance, posture, movement and expression to form a single whole. Kapa Haka includes waiata tira (choral song without actions), waiata a ringa (song with actions), poi and haka.

WestREAPs Community Kapa Haka sessions are ideal for anybody wanting to learn songs in Te Reo (waiata) and movements.   Also includes information around Maori culture, tikanga and Te Reo appreciation and pronunciation.

Greymouth sessions are Tuesdays 5:30pm - 7:00pm at the Greymouth High School Whare. Kapa Haka in Hokitika is currently taking a break, please register your interest.  The fee is $50 per term.
